Bulky Item Pickup
Residents are entitled to two free bulky item pickups during the year. Please contact Waste Management at least twenty-four hours in advance of your regularly scheduled collection at 800-423-9986. There is a size/amount limit.
Regular collection of trash, recyclables and yard waste will be delayed one day the week of a holiday. The following holidays are observed by Waste Management:
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
- New Years Day
Additional containers for trash, recycling and yard waste are offered at an extra cost to your monthly collection. Damaged containers will be replaced free of charge.
Used Oil Collection
Residents interested in disposing of used motor oil can arrange a curbside pickup at no cost by contacting Waste Management at 800-423-9986 at least twenty-four hours in advance of a regularly scheduled pickup. Please ensure motor oil is sealed in a container that cannot spill into the storm water drain.
The City of Murrieta has consistently worked to offer its residents the lowest service rates in Southwest Riverside County. But in order to keep the service rates at the lowest price possible, it is imperative that the responsible parties pay for trash service. When one tenant or resident doesn't pay, it can affect the rate of all others. Therefore, the City has implemented mandatory trash service with the franchise waste hauler.
If a resident does not want or need service, they may apply for a self-haul permit with an annual fee of $20. This insures that Murrieta meets the requirements of state mandates (specifically AB 939). The City is required to divert 50% of its waste stream from landfills, and can be fined $10,000 per day for not reaching this obligation.
Additionally, the City recommends that each landlord establish trash service and pass this charge onto tenants. If a tenant leaves a delinquent amount on their waste service bill, the property owner is ultimately responsible. Waste service is a utility, and property owners are ultimately responsible for utilities of each property in Murrieta. If a landlord does not establish trash service, and leaves this up to the tenant, they can still contact Waste Management and ask to receive notification if the account falls into a delinquency.
